Let me start with a disclaimer: I really like all of the other Caputo's locations. I'm not a fan of the U of U location for one simple reason: their sandwiches are made too d*mn quickly! Admittedly when it comes to food efficiency, you can run into a goldilocks problem. Its generally too fast, or too slow and can be hard to get just right. When food comes out too slow it will ruin your lunch/dinner hour and cause major frustration. When food comes out too fast on the other hand you sacrifice quality for speed. This Caputo's has thrown quality out the window in order to feed as many students/professors as possible. Granted, when I was a student (and even when I just worked up at the U) I did not have the finest pallet and Caputo's probably would have been a more than adequate lunch. Now that I am a little older, I would prefer a well crafted sandwich that took a few more minutes to assemble. The U of U is a wasteland of garbage food, but Caputo's has set a high standard at their other locations and I know they can do better.

Normally Tony Caputos' prosciutto sandwich is my favorite sandwich in town. I have had it many times from both the downtown and 15 & 15th locations. I tried the sandwich today from the u of u location and was very disappointed. The sandwich was clearly made in a rush, even though there was no line. When I bit into the sandwich I was disappointed to find the provolone was not on the sandwich and the tomatoes were so thinly sliced, mealy, and underripe I had to take them off. What was left was a disappointing and unappetizing bit of meat and shredded lettuce. Maybe the deviation from Caputos' high quality food is because they know they have a captive audience given the limited and lackluster food options on campus, but I just hope they aren't spreading themselves too thin. I won't be going back to this location.

Great Place! Nice Guys! I ate there twice a week for a semester. They're located right inside the Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building at the University of Utah. Always friendly and good prices. I loved getting their pound of pasta for $3.99 with the penny pasta and meatballs. They had really good sandwiches too that they used balsamic vinegar on such as the Italian cold cut or the vegetarian mozzarella and tomato. Their desserts weren't that bad either. They baked their cookies each day so they were fresh. The two guys that worked there as the mains were really nice and friendly and even sometimes cut me a deal after the first few weeks eating there before class. I'd highly recommend checking them out.

This little branch of Caputo's is a true oasis in the bland desert of University food. Housed in the ground floor of the Humanities building at the U, it provides a great selection of the basics you would find at Caputo's downtown. Daily pasta specials, the great sandwiches we wall know and love along with salads round out the menu to make it the perfect lunch spot. 5 stars because it is as good as it gets on campus.

Great service. However for the last two months things have changed. Stale bread and burnt meatballs don't mix well together

I don't know what people are complaining about. It is the highest quality option on campus. Yes the downtown location is probably better, but for its location: the prices are good, food is great, service is awesome, and hours are reasonable.

Wow the best place on campus for sure. Let all the kids eat at Panda Express and treat yourself to some good food and service. The sandwich was a good price and the service was amazing thanks!

Caputo's is a nice addition to the food scene at the U, but this is nothing like the downtown location. They have many of the same sandwiches and salads that you would come to expect, but I think the food quality suffers. They get so busy and are so under staffed that items just do not seem to taste as good and things get sloppy. I would definitely not recommend getting coffee here due to lack of quality control. I usually order the Caputo or the Greek Salad with salami added. I would say it is exactly worth what you pay especially the full items, but they are ok for up at the U. Make sure to come before noon or after 1pm because the line can get long. They move quickly through the line, but the quality of food and coffee items does suffer as a result. Anyways, try it out and see if you like it. Caputo's is great, but this place just does not live up to the name.

I love this location of Tony Caputo's Deli. It is located on the first floor of the humanities building at the U. If you get tired eating the same o burger, same o sandwich or same o chinese food at the Union. Walk on over to Caputo's for a good lunch. Their summer hours are from 7:00 am - 3:00 pm. They have daily sandwich specials but the best one is the half a sandwich special ( includes soda, and chips) for about $7 bucks. I recommend the caputo, muffaletta, or meatball on chiabatta bread. They are all very good. I know everyone raves about Caputo's Sandwiches but my favorite things to order here is the tuna salad. It is always on point. They sit the tuna salad on top of a spinach/ green salad with some balsamic vinaigrette and serve it with a roll and olive. The people who work here are friendly and they are quick about getting your food to you. They have plenty of seating. This location also has great seating right outside the building with some tables and chairs.

Wow, what a great place to have sandwiches. Never thought that Caputo would bring their branch all the way out to the University. They have some of the freshest and best sandwich in Salt Lake City for sure. Definite a must if you are in the area.

First trip to Tony Caputo's at U of U campus. A little difficult to find but now that I know where it is, I plan to return. Reasonable prices (for on-campus food). I enjoyed a half sandwich (mozzarella/tomato) with a half salad (greek) and was quite full and satisfied for a little over $7. Portions aren't huge, but they are more than sufficient for a filling lunch. Ingredients were high quality and fresh.

I was very disappointed in my first trip here. Was looking forward to a caprese salad and it was easily the worst I've ever had. Strike one: instead of an actual caprese salad, it was a spinach, etc. salad with mozzarella and tomatoes on top (the menu doesn't state this). Strike two: basil was almost non-existent. Strike three: the cheese was mozzarella balls from a jar instead of fresh mozzarella (probably the cheap Costco ones since they were piled on). Strike 4: "garden fresh" tomatoes were anything but fresh. Strike five: the balsamic vinegar dressing tasted like something out of the sewer. For something as easy to make as a caprese salad, this was very unimpressive.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
